1. To present Wing Chun’s Principles and Concepts as distilled and understood by Sifu Bryan Talbot.  These Principles and Concepts will act as a blueprint for our Wing Chun and will encourage and foster limitless application.

Sifu Bryan Talbot, our chief instructor, brings over 40 years  of Martial Arts and Wing Chun experience to our organization.  Throughout his life, he has learned 3 variations of Ip Man’s Wing Chun System.  The first two variations were from his first Sifu, Master Ron Heimberger, who originally trained with Grandmaster Leung Ting and later, with Grandmaster Ip Ching, Ip Man’s son.  The third variation was from his current Sifu, Grandmaster Samuel Kwok who is a disciple of Grandmaster Ip Ching and Grandmaster Ip Chun (Ip Man’s eldest son), and has learned from a closed door student of Ip Man.

In learning such variations, Sifu Talbot has come to fully embrace Wing Chun as a system whose Principles and Concepts remain steadfast, while it’s application and energy may and will vary dependent on the practitioner and opponent.  A firm believer that Wing Chun’s Principles and Concepts are meant to act as a blueprint or guidance system for the practitioner, Sifu Talbot rejects the notion that there is only one correct way to apply given concepts. In doing so, he seeks to free the practitioner from confining techniques and open his abilities to limitless application.

2. Present a clear and defined set of teaching methods to best deliver Wing Chun in a way that all can understand and benefit from.

The Wing Chun Boot Camp method of teaching insures that the student has a strong foundation in the art and thoroughly understands its principles and concepts.  However, it doesn’t stop there.  West Coast Wing Chun’s entire curriculum is based on “classes” that are designed to:

  • Increase your skill in a highly organized manner that focuses on a specific skill set. Each student must test and pass each class at each level. This insures correct learning and progression of skill.
  • Unite learning amongst students – all students all learning and working on the same set of skills in each particular class.  Various levels may attend, but they are each united in the lesson.

3. Empower and inspire others to positively impact our communities and society.

We learn to fight, not to instigate or perpetuate violence, but to restore peace.  Martial Spirit – the spirit of giving back to the community and to be of service is all but gone in martial circles. The over glorification of violence for sport and entertainment has taken much of the true meaning out of martial arts. We, as an organization, are working to restore the true meaning of martial arts.  Each month students are encouraged to participate in “community service challenges”.   Our students have participated in beach clean ups, worked with Women’s Shelter of Long Beach, sponsored families in need, and volunteered time with the elderly.
