FIRST PHASE: BOOT CAMP LEVEL

ALL students who wish to learn Wing Chun at our school  must pass our 3 Month intensive foundation training course.  The curriculum includes the Siu Lim Tao Form, emphasis on conditioning using correct musculature for proper Wing Chun training, lecture on Wing Chun principles and concepts such as centerline, relaxation, economy, facing, fighting zones etc., paired drilling in which students are introduced to 11 Methods of Defense and 6 Methods of Attack.  By the end of the course,  students will have developed excellent simultaneous attack and defense skills using these methods. Dan Chi Sau & Footwork are also introduced. An introduction to Qi Gong is practiced.

SECOND PHASE: SIU LIM TAO LEVEL

The second phase, Siu Lim Tao level,  builds carefully on this three month foundation and is comprised of 22 specific classes that are meant to develop your skill and knowledge quickly and effectively in San Sik (Footwork and Handwork), Anti-Grappling, Ground Work, the Inside Line, Kick Defense, Sensitivity,  & Power Training using Wing Chun’s principles and concepts at their highest efficiency.  This will take a student anywhere from six months to a year and a half to complete.   All classes must be attended and students will be tested in proficiency (free of charge) for all 22 of the classes.  A student must also pass a written test to progress to the Chum Kiu level.

THIRD PHASE: CHUM KIU LEVEL

The third phase is where the heart of Wing Chun Fighting lies – Chum Kiu.  To not to progress to this level is a huge disservice to one’s fighting development, but it takes strong discipline and commitment to achieve this level at our kwoon.   At this stage, the curriculum becomes less linear and is not broken down into specific classes, but into Chum Kiu’s three sections developing a student’s internal and external power, body structure,  handwork and footwork, and principles and concepts as each relates to each specific section.   Chi Sau and the Mook Jong are used as tools to express Chum Kiu’s lessons.  Chin Na is learned.  This is a very detailed section and should not be rushed through. Our students are required to test and sign off all the elements of Chum Kiu’s three sections, must write reports on all required readings and learn all assigned anatomy lessons.  It will take a student approximately  one and a half to two years to successfully pass through this phase.

FOURTH PHASE: BIU GEE LEVEL

The fourth phase is Biu Gee. This phase is open to all, but less than 5% of our students will ever reach this level.  It is taught only to the most revered students, as these are the ones who are willing to do the work to earn it.  We encourage all of our students to stay focused and disciplined enough to make it this far.  We hope you become one of the ones who sees the system through to its completion.  Biu Gee will take a minimum of a year of training.

To become a Sifu under Sifu Bryan Talbot will require 6-8 years of consistent training.  Although Wing Chun is a very simple and direct art and takes only 2 years to become proficient, it takes a lifetime to master.  Sifu’s under him must continue to train and learn, always seeking to improve their skill and understanding.  To become a Sifu under Sifu Bryan is an achievement of great accumulated effort.

WEAPONS: Our Wing Chun Curriculum includes all Wing Chun’s weapons.

Luk Dim Boon Kwun (Long Pole) is taught first.  Baat Cham Do (Butterfly Knives) are the final weapons taught.
