Adult Wing Chun Classes
Wing Chun training for adults and teens at West Coast Wing Chun.
What Happens in Class?
Classes consist of short lectures, solo group drilling and paired drilling. Physical fitness is built into the training itself.
Short Lectures
Short lectures teach the principles and concepts behind the physical work. There is more lecture in the earlier stages, when students are learning the framework of Wing Chun, but principles and concepts continue to be taught at every level. You should understand why you are doing what you are doing, not simply copy a movement.
Solo Group Drilling
During solo group drilling, students line up and train together in unison. You may work on stance, footwork, kicks, hand techniques, forms, or combinations of hands and feet. The repetitions can be high and the pace demanding. This is also where much of the physical conditioning happens.
Paired Drilling
Paired drilling changes the problem. Now there is another person in front of you, and distance, timing and contact become part of the work.
Throughout class, your instructor teaches, watches and corrects. What you train, how you train it, and what is expected of you change as you progress.
Who Will Teach Me?
Your instructor depends on where you train. Each WCWC location is led by an authorized West Coast Wing Chun instructor.
Your instructor teaches both the material and the principles and concepts behind it. They watch you train and make corrections as you work. Sometimes that correction is obvious. Sometimes a small adjustment in stance, facing, hand position, footwork or timing makes the difference.
Meet our instructors, learn about their backgrounds and find out who teaches at the WCWC location nearest you.
MEET THE WCWC INSTRUCTORS →What If I’ve Never Done Martial Arts Before?
Previous martial arts experience is not required.
Beginning students are taught how to stand and move, how to use their hands and feet, the first Wing Chun form, how to begin working with another person, and the principles and concepts behind what they are learning.
You aren't expected to know any of that before you arrive.
New WCWC students begin with Wing Chun Boot Camp™, our 12-week introductory course.
SEE HOW BEGINNING TRAINING WORKS →Do I Need to Be in Shape First?
No. But expect to work.
Physical conditioning is part of the training. Solo group drilling can involve large numbers of repetitions performed together—punches, hand techniques, stance and footwork, kicks, and combinations of hands and feet.
The amount and intensity of the work change as you progress.
You don't have to get in shape before you start Wing Chun. You get stronger and better conditioned by training it.
What Will Be Expected of Me?
Come to class consistently. Pay attention. Practice what you have been taught. Be willing to repeat the work and be willing to be corrected.
Some of your training can continue between classes. Forms, stance, footwork and individual techniques can all be practiced without a partner. It also gives you time to work on corrections your instructor has made before you return to class.
Practice doesn't have to mean an hour every day. Short, focused sessions done consistently make a difference.
When you train with another student, you also have a responsibility to them. Both of you need the opportunity to work, learn and make mistakes.
Your instructor can teach, explain, observe and correct. You have to do the training.

WCWC currently has schools in California, Texas, Arizona, Utah and New York. Choose your location to meet your instructor and get current information about training and enrollment.
Can I Train Online?
Yes.
Private online instruction is available for students who don't live near a WCWC school. Training is one-on-one with a WCWC instructor rather than a prerecorded course.
