West Coast Wing Chun preserves its history through documented training, photographs, publications, and direct teacher-student relationships. Our lineage matters because it shows where the training came from, how it was passed forward, and the foundation on which WCWC continues to build.
Wing Chun lineage is not simply a list of names. It represents actual instruction passed from teacher to student over time.
Master Bryan Talbot has trained in Wing Chun since 1989. His Wing Chun development includes extensive training through both Master Ron Heimberger and Master Samuel Kwok, connecting WCWC directly to the Ip Man family tradition through Ip Ching and Ip Chun.
WCWC remains affiliated with the Samuel Kwok Wing Chun Martial Art Association while continuing to develop its own curriculum, instructor standards, and organizational direction.
We preserve where we came from while taking responsibility for where the system goes next.
WCWC’s history reaches the Ip Man family through two important paths in Master Bryan Talbot’s training.
Grandmaster of the modern Wing Chun system and teacher of both Ip Chun and Ip Ching.
Ip Man’s sons and major figures in the preservation and teaching of their father’s Wing Chun.

West Coast Wing Chun carries that training forward through its own curriculum, instructor development, schools, and teaching standards.
Martial arts instruction creates real expectations about skill and self-defense. Students deserve to know that their instructor has received legitimate training and has developed that training under qualified teachers.
Preserving Wing Chun does not mean freezing it in time. It means understanding what was passed down, protecting the principles that make the system work, and teaching them responsibly to the next generation.

WCWC respects the teachers and traditions that shaped its foundation, but our responsibility is to the students training now.
That means maintaining a clear curriculum, developing qualified instructors, testing skill under pressure, preserving the principles of Wing Chun, and continuing to improve the way the system is taught.
The result is a living Wing Chun organization grounded in documented lineage and accountable for the quality of the training it provides.
