You Can Still
Train Wing Chun.
You found Wing Chun. You want to train. But there isn’t a qualified school close enough to attend regularly.
West Coast Wing Chun gives students at a distance a practical way forward. Start with direct instruction, develop a training partner, build something local, and bring WCWC to you.

Don’t Wait for a School.
Start Building Your Training.
Begin With Private Online Wing Chun Training
The first problem is simple: you need someone qualified to teach you.
Begin with private online instruction directly with Sifu Bryan Talbot, founder and Chief Master Instructor of West Coast Wing Chun.
Instead of trying to piece Wing Chun together from videos, you have an instructor watching you, correcting you, answering questions and determining what comes next.
This is where you begin developing structure, movement, coordination, forms, positioning, concepts and the technical foundation you’ll need later.
Private Online Training →Get a Training Partner.
Eventually you will reach something online instruction alone cannot provide: Wing Chun requires another body.
You need someone to touch, move with, apply pressure against and respond to. That person doesn’t need to already know Wing Chun.
It might be a friend, spouse, another martial artist, or someone else in your area who has also been looking for a way to train.
As your training reaches the point where partner work is needed, bring someone in. Your instruction can then help guide what the two of you work on together between sessions.
You don’t need to find a whole school. You need to find one person.
Build Something Local.
Once two people are training, you have the beginnings of something local.
If others in your area are interested in Wing Chun, start bringing people together. You don’t need to recreate a martial arts school. A small group gives you people to practice with while you continue developing under WCWC direction.
It might remain a few people who simply enjoy training together. Or, with time, more people may become interested.
The goal isn’t to have a school on day one. It’s to have people to train with.Host a Workshop or Seminar.
Once you have several people training, another possibility opens up: bring the instruction to your area.
Training groups can contact West Coast Wing Chun about hosting Sifu Bryan Talbot for an in-person workshop or seminar.
That creates an opportunity for hands-on correction and direct work with pressure, timing, sensitivity, distance, partner training and application.
And because your group can already be training between visits, a workshop doesn’t have to be an isolated event. It can become part of the group’s continuing development.
Ask About Hosting Sifu Bryan →See What It Can Become.
You may already have everything you wanted: good instruction, people to train with, and opportunities for hands-on work with Sifu Bryan.
But some students eventually want to go further. Those who develop the necessary skill, knowledge, experience and commitment may explore WCWC Instructor Development.
Over time, a serious local training community may also create the conditions for something more formal to develop in an area where WCWC doesn’t currently have a school.
The absence of a school today doesn’t have to determine what exists there tomorrow. Instructor Development →
Start With Someone Who Knows the Whole System.
Sifu Bryan Talbot is the founder and Chief Master Instructor of West Coast Wing Chun.
Private online training gives students without access to a WCWC school a way to begin directly under the person responsible for the organization’s system and curriculum.
Training Group.
Not a WCWC School.
Authorization is earned separately.
A local training group is not a certified West Coast Wing Chun school. Private instruction, participation in a training group, workshops and seminars do not confer instructor certification or authorization to teach. WCWC instructor certification and school authorization are separate processes governed by WCWC standards.
No School Nearby? You Still Have Options.
Can I learn Wing Chun if there is no school near me?
Yes. You can begin with private online instruction, develop the fundamentals correctly, and then add a training partner as your training progresses.
Can I learn Wing Chun online?
A significant part of Wing Chun can be taught and corrected online, including structure, movement, forms, positioning, concepts, coordination, and technical understanding.
Wing Chun is also a partner art, so online training should eventually lead to contact training with another person rather than replace it.
Does my training partner need to know Wing Chun?
No. Your training partner does not need previous Wing Chun experience. It can be a friend, spouse, another martial artist, or someone who simply wants to train with you.
Can I start a Wing Chun training group in my area?
Yes. If other people in your area are interested, you can begin training together while continuing to receive direction from WCWC.
A training group is not automatically a certified WCWC school and does not authorize anyone to teach professionally.
Can Sifu Bryan Talbot come to my area for a workshop or seminar?
Potentially. Developing training groups can contact West Coast Wing Chun about hosting Sifu Bryan for an in-person workshop or seminar. Availability depends on the location, group, timing, and circumstances.
Can a training group eventually become a WCWC school?
It may become a possibility over time, but it is not automatic. WCWC instructor certification and school authorization have separate requirements.
Students who develop sufficient skill, experience, commitment, and teaching ability may eventually explore WCWC Instructor Development.
